Question:  What are some creative management strategies to support those goals businesses seeking ways to further streamline operations in tight times, while positioning for future growth?

Answer:
More and more managers it seems are following a business model similar to ours, which even in a stronger national economy was moving toward what we call a “deconstructed” management model – an approach that’s proven even more beneficial as times have become more challenging.

The strategy supports a sharper focus on our areas of expertise, and allows us to tap into the expertise of others in a number of specific areas, in a cost effective way.

Growth-oriented companies can move beyond the old idea of “outsourcing” – which suggests handing over the reins to an outside party – and instead develop strategic “virtual” partnerships in areas where business leadership can and should “let the experts be experts” in an arrangement that is both nimble and cost effective. Such partnership arrangements in a number of key areas -- data management and IT, risk management, legal services, medical benefits and communications, for example – allow for flexibility in tailoring services to a company’s specific needs – including economic constraints – without sacrificing the ability to maintain managerial control over operations.

Another key benefit is that the model also supports strong talent management, and maximizes the potential for quality employee recruitment. Creating a culture that’s sharp and tightly focused on the core business provides employees with better opportunities to grow their talents in the industry, and makes the company a much more attractive employer.

Selecting the strategic partners that are the best possible fit for the specific business’ needs assures both access to the strongest talent possible in their area of expertise and the ability to tap into the know-how of workers who are specialized and up to the minute in their own industry.
