Ballpark Village Attracts Visitors with New Development

May 3, 2019

A new phase of construction is already underway for Ballpark Village (BPV). As a result, $260 million redevelopment projects outside the walls of Busch Stadium is already attracting 6 million visitors annually. The 2nd phase of BPV includes a Live! by Loews hotel, a 29-story high-rise luxury residential tower, One Cardinal Way, the first Class-A office building in downtown St. Louis in nearly 30 years, and additional retail, restaurant, and entertainment space. More than 1,000 construction jobs and 1,700 permanent new jobs began from the 1st phase of Ballpark Village. The 2nd phase stands to create 1,500 construction jobs and more than 1,000 permanent new jobs.

On April 9, equipped with hard hats, safety glasses and vests, SLATE staff and program participants had a pleasure of visiting the construction site of BPV’s 2nd phase and attended a presentation lead by PARIC Corp, one of St. Louis’ most significant privately owned construction management companies, working on the Ballpark Village project. Another local partner of SLATE, LYFT, organized transportation for all participants. The objective of the site visit was to encourage program participants to seek employment in construction trades. Union jobs offer competitive wages and benefits, and the growing industry requires many qualified workers to support all the construction projects in the City. The industry provides free training through apprenticeships, where participants can earn income and pay their bills while they learn.

There is a wide variety of career choices and training options just outside Busch Stadium:

  • Boilermaker Operating Engineer
  • Painter Ironworker
  • Plasterer Carpenter
  • Pipefitter Laborer
  • Roofer Electrician
  • Sheet Metal Worker
  • And More!

Those interested in becoming construction apprentices need to contact Armand Paulet, SLATE Construction Intake Liaison, at 314-657-3601, or Charles Williams, SLATE Job Developer, at 314-589-8027.
