Responsibilities
- Process weekly union payroll and semi-monthly payrolls according to established deadlines
- Collect, verify, and enter timekeeping data, including adjustments for overtime, double time, and zero-dollar entries
- Collaborate with HR to verify correct pay rates, benefits, and apprentice upgrade schedules
- Input and monitor garnishments, tax information, and direct deposit setups
- Run payroll tax and garnishment reports and upload ACH files for final approval
- Address employee payroll inquiries and resolve timekeeping issues
- Communicate with union representatives on pay rates, reporting requirements, and audits
- Balance and reconcile union fringe benefits weekly and monthly; ensure timely payments
- Input and audit annual wage, benefit, and charge rate changes for union employees
- Assist with external union audits by gathering and providing required documentation
- Track reciprocity arrangements between home and away unions
- Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll, union payments, and vacation reclassifications
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts associated with payroll and fringe benefits
- Assist with payroll analytics and resolve discrepancies before finalizing payroll
- Run and distribute project labor and job costing reports; input weekly labor quantities
- Monitor and respond to inquiries from the Payroll Inbox
- Support additional duties and projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager or Director of Corporate Accounting
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of experience in payroll or accounting roles; union payroll experience is a strong plus
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and union labor agreements
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with payroll software (e.g., CMIC) is preferred
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
