Job Title: Preconstruction Executive – Institutional

Position Summary:
As the Preconstruction Executive, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of our Institutional Sector and driving strategic growth. You will oversee all preconstruction services including estimating, planning, design collaboration, and client engagement, while also taking ownership of identifying and generating new business opportunities. This role combines operational leadership with client-facing business development responsibilities and is ideal for a forward-thinking, entrepreneurial construction professional.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Department Development
- Lead, structure, and grow the preconstruction services within the Sector to support the company’s strategic goals and visions.
- Implement best practices, tools, and workflows to improve team efficiency, accuracy, and accountability.
Business Development & Opportunity Generation
- Actively identify, pursue, and help secure new business opportunities through industry networking, market analysis, and strategic client engagement.
- Serve as a key advisor during the go/no-go process and help evaluate project fit and feasibility.
- Partner with business development and marketing teams to shape proposals, RFQs/RFPs, and interviews that differentiate the company in the marketplace.
- Maintain strong relationships with key clients, design partners, trade contractors, and consultants to foster long-term business.
Preconstruction Oversight
- Oversee and guide the preconstruction process from initial concept through final GMP or lump-sum pricing.
- Ensure all cost estimates are aligned with market conditions, project logistics, and scope requirements.
- Drive value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost control strategies that benefit the client and the project.
- Leverage innovative technologies, software tools, and methodologies to streamline preconstruction processes, enhance collaboration, improve accuracy, and drive efficiencies across project teams.
- Develop and fully understand the general conditions and requirements for institutional work, with specific attention to the cost associated with working within an active facility.
Strategic & Risk Management
- Shape preconstruction processes and standards within the Sector that reduce risk and enhance client satisfaction.
- Provide executive-level input on project planning, delivery models, and construction phasing strategies.
- Track and report on preconstruction pipeline performance, hit rates, and resource allocation.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments for each project, identifying potential challenges, uncertainties, and mitigation strategies to minimize project risks and ensure successful project delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years in commercial construction with at least 5 years leading preconstruction or estimating teams.
- Proven ability to build teams, develop departmental infrastructure, and lead strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated success in identifying and converting new business opportunities into awarded projects.
- Experience with Design-Build, CMAR, and Design-Bid-Build delivery methods across sectors such as healthcare, institutional, or justice.
- Proficiency with preconstruction tools, scheduling, and CRM platforms.
- Excellent leadership, presentation, and client communication skills.
