Reimagine Hospitality closed on its acquisition of the historic Shell Building. The Shell Building is located at 1221 Locust St. in St. Louis’ Downtown West neighborhood. Little Rock, Arkansas is home to the hospitality group.
The former Shell Building will become a dual-branded hotel. The Shell Building will be the first hotel in St. Louis to feature both the Tru by Hilton and Home2Suites brands together. The new hotel will add 203 new hotel rooms. There will be 80 conventional hotel rooms and 123 extended-stay suites.
“The Tru and Home2 by Hilton brands are a perfect fit for the dynamic, energetic vibe emerging from the reinvigorating of this historic district,” Kunal Mody, principal of Reimagine, said in a statement. “We are excited to provide a home-away-from-home to travelers right in the heart of where St. Louis locals work and play.”
Renovation and construction on the $43.2 million project will begin soon. All renovation work will follow the Department of the Interior’s rehabilitation standards. New-Orleans based Campo Architects will lead the design team while PARIC Corporation will serve as the general contractor.
The Home2 Suites/Tru by Hilton hotel is one of two dozen hotels proposed or under construction in the region.
The historic Shell Building opened in 1926. The building served as the headquarters for the company later known as Shell Petroleum Company.
