POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Project Safety Manager reports directly to the Sr Safety Manger and indirectly to the Project Manager. This upper-level project-based position calls for candidates with passion and drive, and requires a high level of commitment and dedication to the health and well-being of others. The ideal candidate will have education, training, excellent communication skills and experience commensurate with the desired position. The Project Safety Manager is responsible for the overall administration of PARIC’s safety guidelines for a specific job site/sites. This individual is to be a safety leader on the project, and serve as the point person for all things safety for the specific job site/sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead and support development and implementation of HSE management systems that support the project needs. These will include site-specific plans and programs pursuant to the Project Management Plan (PMP).
  • Provide technical and behavioral leadership and guidance to the assigned project/projects
  • Review existing policies and procedures, making recommendations for improvement
  • Utilize PARIC audit and assessment tools and protocols
  • Facilitate incident investigations and prepare incident report(s)
  • Regularly communicate the status of the project’s HSE culture and project performance with employees, supervision, project team, project client and corporate management
  • Assist supervision and employees in the planning of work tasks with a focus on recognition, evaluation, and mitigation of safety hazards and risk
  • Provide direction and support for contractors and subcontractors as necessary to ensure compliance with all applicable legislative, client, and PARIC policies and procedures
  • Develop, facilitate, and conduct HSE training for the project as needed, and assure training is tracked internally as required
  • Provide first aid care as necessary to the limits of training and ability
  • Provide injury management from a site level and support workers’ comp case management, specifically timely and accurate reporting with internal and external support including, but not limited to, claims processing, return to work, light duty assignment, closure of claims, and resolving discrepancies as needed
  • Compile and share safety lessons learned across PARIC
  • Assist Human Resources in completing monthly random drug screenings of field personnel
  • Conduct/coordinate Project Safety “Tool Box” Meetings with all project employees on a weekly basis
  • Conduct ‘new hire’ safety orientations onsite

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Thorough understanding of construction work practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (includes use of proper grammar, spelling, etc.)
  • High level of integrity for reporting incidents and events, as well as upholding company policy
  • Willingness to support PARIC Safety culture via leadership by example
  • Ability to complete advanced HSE related tasks with little direction after initial assignment
  • Thorough understanding of HSE management topics, including workers comp, disciplinary action, subcontractor management, environmental management, etc.
  • Ability to foster compromise that meets needs of operations while in line with policy
  • Ability to speak well in front of groups to deliver training, meetings, etc.
  • Ability to develop safety meetings, safety topics, etc.
  • Ability to use the BIM Field safety management system
  • Nationally recognized certifications (CSP, ASP, SMS, CHST, or OHST) or Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field
  • OSHA 500
  • Prefer a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction HSE management, with at least four years in an HSE supervisory or management role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or closely related field.
  • Capable of providing HSE oversight for large projects (>250 employees)
  • 30-hour OSHA certification
  • CPR /First Aid/AED trained.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing no more than 50 pounds
  • Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas.
  • Must have sufficient range of motion.
  • May periodically be required to work extended (12-16) consecutive hours, dependent on project needs and schedule.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework.
  • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms, and other job related noises.
  • Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces.

TRAVEL

Regular local travel by car is expected on average 3 – 5 times per week for this position. Assignments may include remote projects, requiring either relocation or long-term travel by car and/or air.
